EAST Hong Kong is a part of Swire Hotels, which also manages the prestigious House Collection, including The Upper House. Both EAST and The Upper House are expanding, with new hotels in development in Xi’an and Tokyo, as part of their plans to extend their global footprint. During a busy Hong Kong week filled with visitors attending Art Basel, my experience at EAST Hong Kong provided a tranquil contrast to the city’s bustling energy.

Upon landing in Hong Kong, the journey to EAST from the airport, a quick 45-minute taxi ride, offered a smooth transition. Nestled in a quieter part of town but highly accessible, East is steps away from the D1 exit of the Tai Koo MRT station - a quick tip to remember which exit - that speaks to our ‘District 1’ reference for Saigonese. This convenience allowed me to settle-in, get a few emails out, before venturing out to catch the city’s evening glow – the perfect balance between tranquility and the city’s bustling rhythm.

Stepping into EAST Hong Kong, one is struck by the crisp, modern design that is both inviting and fun. The hotel’s signature orange accents serve not just as a bold statement of identity but as a warm welcome to guests, infusing a sense of playfulness. From the staff uniforms to the stationary, every detail is curated with intention and a distinct personality. The hotel pays architectural homage to the Quarry Bay area and the iconic Monster Building, just blocks away. Views from the hotel frame Hong Kong’s dense, dystopian cityscape, presenting it as a living canvas. This striking juxtaposition not only captivates but also showcases EAST’s mastery in blending the city’s urban density with its spacious, meticulously designed interiors.

The food at EAST was exceptional; simple classics are reimagined and well-executed. The breakfast spread is a blend of Western and Asian cuisines, catering to travelers from around the world. But it’s the coffee bar, with its freshly baked goods that became my daily ritual. I was pleasantly surprised by the curated selection of goods at EAST, featuring thoughtfully chosen brands. Among them, Conspiracy Chocolate stood out with its single-source Vietnamese cacao beans. It was heartening to see such recognition and appreciation for the high value of Vietnamese goods, used in a sustainable manner, and showcased internationally in a meaningful and impactful way.

My weekend at EAST Hong Kong was more than a stay; it was an immersive experience that echoed the very essence of what we strive to celebrate at Vietcetera - innovation, culture, and connections. In the fast-paced rhythm of Hong Kong, especially during a weekend brimming with the energy of Art Basel and a significant influx of visitors, EAST offers not just a place to stay, but a sanctuary to explore, reflect, and rejuvenate. It’s a reminder that in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic cities, there are spaces that invite you to pause and appreciate the beauty of thoughtful design and exceptional hospitality.

EAST Hong Kong, with its unique blend of modern design, culinary offerings, and unparalleled accessibility, has etched itself as a must-visit destination for those looking to experience Hong Kong in a new light. My new go-to spot for quick weekend trips to Hong Kong.
